Volunteering at the Salmon River Grange Distribution Center.

Today, like most days, I worked at the Grange. A new lady came in who could not tell me what she needed - she was overwhelmed and just barely functioning. Thankfully, we weren't busy at the time - she was able to take her time and go from aisle to aisle. It took her awhile... But she found two lovely blankets and a bowl. Then she was done. "Come back when you can," I said. "We'll be here."

One of our regulars came in. His wife just had major surgery and is in terrible pain. Recovering in a motel room. This was the first time he's left her by herself since the surgery last week - he gave us his list and we helped him get what he needed, including some jello cups for her.

Another regular came in with her visiting grandson - he has come in on a previous visit and had asked if they could stop by - he wanted to come back to get some juice for himself and his siblings.

A man came in to get a pair of pants - he had ruined his only pair bagging ash on his property. But the ash is mostly bagged, he said, and they're pouring the new foundation next week!

A lady came in, another regular, and picked out a set of stoneware. They don't quite have their permanent residence, but the pattern was one she'd lost in the fire.

A steady stream of people - hurting, numb, hopeful - came in today. And we helped them.

This is why I do this. It's exhausting. I'm tired. But I come home to my own bed. My own kitchen. My recliner and my books. They go home to a motel room, a friend's garage, an RV, a shed...

Your donations matter. Your effort matters. Your prayers matter. Thank you.
