The Wheels Of Justice Grind Slowly…but They Get There. Huge Win For Wildfire Survivors
This Monday, justice hit Pacific Corp as the company was found guilty of the Labor Day of four fires that ravaged communities in Oregon, specifically Echo Mountain, the Obenchain fire, the Santiam fire, and the Two Four Two Fire.
The company has been ordered to pay $72 million in damages to a a subset of victims with possibly more to come.
More on a resonant point, the jury found the company grossly negligent and its conduct reckless. Indeed,$67.5 million went for pain and suffering.
It was clear that the jury understood the disaster and its consequences. After seven weeks of expert testimony, it took them only two days to render their verdict.
“You have the ability to tell survivors that they matter,” said Nick Rossini, an attorney for the plaintiffs.
Clearly the jury agreed.
While this is verdict is remarkable, the trauma and rebuilding continue . At CRT our efforts have expanded, but our first response to victims and our support will continue.
Many of our team have lived through this trauma and strive to help with rebuilding and to realize that the sense of fear continues.
We are Oregon strong!
