Cascade Relief Team Brings Support and “Kids” to the Pear Blossom Parade
Cascade Relief Team is delighted to participate in this year’s 69th annual Pear Blossom Parade, with our own booth and a special treat as well.
For those in the community who don’t know us, Cascade Relief Team is a 501(c)3 non profit crisis-driven organization that is dedicated to empowering communities to come together in the midst of devastation. Our team focuses on providing essential items and resources to survivors of natural disasters, and helping them to rebuild their lives while surrounded by a loving community.
In the aftermath of the Almeda and Obenchain Fires we did exactly that, helping assist with supplies, support and toy drives.
The Pear Blossom Parade is a great community event so it is a perfect fit for us, especially now that people can gather and intermingle.
The Parade has a long history in the Rogue Valley. In 1954, representatives of several Medford groups met to initiate an event during the spring blossom season. They decided to have a children’s’ parade. A five-year-old, Miss Blossom, was chosen to reign over the 10 floats. Today the Parade sees 150+ parade entrants and 5,000 participants.
Note that the parade was originally a children’s parade. At CRT, we are honoring those beginnings by having three baby goats at our booth, so that children of all ages can enjoy the experience.
Children are a special area of our focus because they have been through so much in the last few years. We expect to bring a few smiles their way. We thought “Kids for Kids” was a great way to give back.
Stop by our booth to get to know us, more about our mission, and how to get involved. If you are a wildfire survivor, we’d love to hear your story as well. And please stop by with your children!
Our booth will be open at 12 noon April 8 and 9th, and the Parade itself begins April 9th at 11:00 a.m in downtown Medford, with other fun events (a cornhole tournament!) sprinkled throughout the weekend.
Please stop by!
