Out of fire comes a well-deserved celebration this weekend in Talent. Years of work have resulted in a milestone, as The Talent Historical Society (THS) has documented all phases of the Almeda Fire in the town of Talent, Oregon.
The culmination of this documentation is a new Almeda Fire Exhibit in the Talent Museum.
The exhibit at the Talent History Museum will be called Fire Remnants.
It will include hundreds of artifacts, photographs, artwork and a book release.
“It’s been a away for the community to come together through grief and through art, through words, through pictures, and put together an exhibit where we all could share that it has a heart beat,” said officials with the Talent Historical Society.
And stirring artifacts – remnants—there are indeed, and many are soul stirring, such as a burned-out saxophone, and touching family and home photos.
The exhibit will be ready to view on Saturday April 29th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. THS will be hosting a Grand Opening event for the exhibit and the release of the book, Talent, Oregon The Almeda Fire, A Documentation by the Talent Historical Society, on that day.
The book is a compilation of stories from people in the community in both Spanish and English, and as such is a great complement to the Exhibit.
More than anything, this Exhibit serves as a physical testament to a horrific event and the wonderful response it brought from individuals and community.
Come join THS in the celebration of these accomplishments. The day progresses as follows:
* Free Historic Downtown Tours conducted at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
* Elegant Bustles and Bows in costume and picture taking booth throughout the day
* Acoustic music by International Folk Music
Feel free to bring your own bustles and bows, and a sense of joy and celebration!
